About Me
My journey into photography began at a very young age. Around the age of ten or eleven, I watched my father work with his camera and spend long hours in his darkroom. He shot with a Yashica twin-lens reflex camera using 120 film, and before long, he placed that camera in my hands. That moment sparked a lifelong passion for visual storytelling.
As a teenager, once I began driving, I spent countless hours exploring the Everglades, photographing wildlife and natural landscapes. I did not yet have specialized lenses, but working with medium-format film allowed me to crop and enlarge images creatively. My father also taught me how to develop black-and-white film in the darkroom, and eventually I built my own darkroom, moving into color processes such as Ektachrome and Cibachrome. While challenging at times, those experiences were incredibly rewarding and laid a strong technical foundation.
Throughout high school and college, I served as a photographer for both school and college newspapers. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, while attending college, photography naturally evolved into a deep interest in motion picture and television production. At the University of Miami, where I studied television and film, I shifted more heavily into video and film, using professional broadcast equipment that would have otherwise been inaccessible due to cost.
While still a student, I began working weekends at Channel 10 as an assistant cameraman. After graduating in 1984, I joined Univision as a cameraman, a role I held for five years. During that time, I traveled extensively, covered major stories, and was honored to receive three Emmy Awards for my work in camera operation, editing, and producing.
Later, inspired in part by my wife’s career in education and guided by mentors such as Tony Allegro, my former professor at the University of Miami, I transitioned into teaching. I joined Miami-Dade County Public Schools as a television and broadcasting instructor, a position I held for 35 years. Near the end of my teaching career, I was deeply honored to be named Teacher of the Year for the county and was presented the Key of the City of Miami by Mayor Xavier Suarez.
Now retired, I have returned fully to photography—where it all began. Today, I focus on primarily creating meaningful images of Nature and Landcapes, sharing knowledge, and continuing to grow creatively. This website is home to my photo galleries, photography tutorials, educational content, and blog, where I share both technical insights and personal experiences from a lifetime behind the camera.
